Which holy book is traditionally said to have begun being revealed during Ramadan?

The story behind the answer

The Quran is traditionally said to have begun being revealed during Ramadan.

In Islamic belief, the Quran was revealed to Muhammad by the angel Gabriel over approximately 23 years, beginning around 610 CE. The first revelations are traditionally associated with the Cave of Hira near Mecca.

Ramadan’s religious importance is therefore connected not only with fasting but also with the Quran. Many Muslims devote additional time during the month to recitation, study, and nightly prayers in which longer passages may be heard.

The Quran is divided into 114 chapters, called surahs, and its text is written in Arabic. Islamic tradition also associates Laylat al-Qadr, or the Night of Decree, with the beginning of the revelation and places it among the final nights of Ramadan.
