Salazar Slytherin founded Slytherin house at Hogwarts in J.K. Rowling’s books.
Slytherin was one of the four founders of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The house is associated with ambition, resourcefulness, determination, and cunning. Its emblem is a serpent, and its traditional colors are green and silver.
The other founders created Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, and Hufflepuff. Each house is linked to particular values and has its own common room, students, and house identity. The Sorting Hat places new students into houses at the beginning of their Hogwarts education.
Slytherin’s reputation is shaped by the actions of some prominent members, especially Lord Voldemort and many Death Eaters. However, the books also show that house membership does not automatically determine a person’s morality. Severus Snape and Draco Malfoy illustrate different aspects of the house’s complicated role.
