Which Hogwarts house has a lion as its emblem?

The story behind the answer

Which Hogwarts house has a lion as its emblem? Gryffindor. The lion represents the house’s traditional values of courage, nerve, chivalry, and daring.

Gryffindor is one of the four student houses at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in J. K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series. It was founded by Godric Gryffindor, whose name and heraldic imagery connect the house to the lion. Gryffindor’s colours are scarlet and gold, and its common room is located in a tower.

Students are assigned to houses by the Sorting Hat when they begin their first year. The hat considers a student’s traits and preferences, although personal choice can matter; Harry Potter’s reluctance to join Slytherin is an important example. Gryffindor students compete in Quidditch and for the annual House Cup alongside students from the other three houses.

The emblem is sometimes confused with the house’s founder or colours. The lion belongs to Gryffindor; Hufflepuff is associated with a badger, Ravenclaw with an eagle, and Slytherin with a serpent. The house’s head is Professor Minerva McGonagall for much of the series.
