Which Hogwarts house does Draco Malfoy belong to in J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series?

The story behind the answer

Draco Malfoy belongs to Slytherin house in J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series.

Draco is sorted into Slytherin at the start of his first year at Hogwarts. The house is associated with ambition, resourcefulness, leadership, and a preference for preserving its members’ traditions. Draco’s family strongly values pure-blood ancestry, and his attitudes initially reflect that background.

He becomes Harry Potter’s school rival and is usually accompanied by Vincent Crabbe and Gregory Goyle. His conflict with Harry begins on the Hogwarts Express and continues through classroom competition, insults, and opposing loyalties.

Slytherin is sometimes reduced to a house of villains, but the series gives its members more varied motivations. Draco’s later fear and reluctance during Voldemort’s rise show that he is not simply a duplicate of the darkest characters. The other houses are Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, and Hufflepuff, each with its own qualities and traditions.
