Which historical civilization is central to Assassin's Creed Origins?

The story behind the answer

Ancient Egypt is the historical civilization central to Assassin's Creed Origins. The game takes place mainly in Egypt during the first century BCE, when the Ptolemaic Kingdom was under major political and cultural pressure.

Players control Bayek of Siwa, a medjay who investigates threats to his family and becomes involved in the origins of the Hidden Ones, the organization that later develops into the Assassin Brotherhood. Cleopatra, Julius Caesar, and Ptolemy XIII are among the historical figures represented in the story.

Origins was released in 2017 and changed the series with role-playing systems, experience levels, loot, and a large explorable map. Ancient Egypt is not the same setting as Assassin's Creed Odyssey, which focuses on Classical Greece. The game also includes deserts, the Nile Valley, Alexandria, and parts of the Sinai region.
