Which historical city does Assassin's Creed Revelations primarily portray as Constantinople?

The story behind the answer

Assassin's Creed Revelations primarily portrays Constantinople, the historical city now known as Istanbul.

The game is set in the early sixteenth century, when Constantinople was the capital of the Ottoman Empire. Ezio Auditore travels there to locate keys connected with Altaïr's library in Masyaf. The city includes districts on both sides of the Golden Horn and features Ottoman landmarks, markets, rooftops, and waterways.

Revelations was released in 2011 and is the final main game centered on Ezio. It also returns to Altaïr through playable memories, linking the first game's protagonist with Ezio's later life. The modern-day sections continue the story of Desmond Miles.

The naming can cause confusion because the city was called Constantinople in the period depicted, while Istanbul is its modern common name. Athens and Alexandria are important historical cities elsewhere in the franchise, but they are not the primary city in Revelations.
