Independence Hall in Philadelphia is associated with the signing of the Declaration of Independence for America250.
The building, originally called the Pennsylvania State House, was the meeting place of the Second Continental Congress in 1776. Congress debated and adopted the Declaration there, and the document was later signed by representatives in the same building.
Independence Hall also hosted the Constitutional Convention in 1787, where delegates drafted the United States Constitution. That connection makes the site important to both major founding documents, not only to the Declaration.
The building stands in what is now Independence National Historical Park. A common mix-up is Carpenters’ Hall, which hosted the First Continental Congress in 1774; Independence Hall is the Philadelphia landmark most directly connected with the Declaration and the Constitution.
