Which historic agreement is honored by the first 2026 America250 quarter design?

The Mayflower Compact is honored by the first 2026 America250 quarter design.

The Mayflower Compact was signed in 1620 by English settlers aboard the Mayflower before they established Plymouth Colony. The agreement created a framework for self-government and included a pledge to make and obey laws for the general good of the colony.

The America250 quarter’s obverse depicts two Pilgrims, while its reverse depicts the Mayflower. The design places the 2026 anniversary in a broader historical story that begins before the Declaration of Independence and includes earlier experiments in colonial self-rule.

The Mayflower Compact was not a declaration of independence and did not create the United States. It was a colonial agreement made decades before the American Revolution. The other 2026 quarter subjects include the Revolutionary War, the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and the Gettysburg Address.
