Which hip hop group released the 1988 album Straight Out the Jungle?
Answer
Jungle Brothers
Answer
Jungle Brothers
Jungle Brothers released the 1988 album Straight Out the Jungle.
The trio—Michael Small, Sammy Burwell, and Mike Gee—issued the album through Warlock Records on July 8, 1988. It combined sample-based production, playful rhythms, jazz references, and an alternative approach that differed from the harder street sound prominent in parts of New York rap.
Straight Out the Jungle is important to the history of the Native Tongues collective. The Jungle Brothers later collaborated with De La Soul and A Tribe Called Quest, helping develop a creative network known for eclectic samples, positive themes, and inventive wordplay.
The title is often confused with “Straight Outta Compton,” N.W.A.’s 1988 album. The Jungle Brothers record is Straight Out the Jungle, without “of,” and it predates the group’s later Native Tongues-associated releases.
