Which hip hop collective included Q-Tip, Phife Dawg, Ali Shaheed Muhammad, and Jarobi White?
Answer
A Tribe Called Quest
Answer
A Tribe Called Quest
A Tribe Called Quest included Q-Tip, Phife Dawg, Ali Shaheed Muhammad, and Jarobi White.
The group formed in Queens, New York, in 1985. Q-Tip and Phife Dawg were the principal rappers, Ali Shaheed Muhammad handled production and DJ duties, and Jarobi White was an original member who contributed vocals and appeared on the early album People’s Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm.
A Tribe Called Quest became one of the leading acts associated with the Native Tongues, a collective that also included De La Soul and the Jungle Brothers. Their music often combined jazz-influenced samples, conversational lyrics, and intricate but relaxed rhythmic patterns.
Phife Dawg temporarily left the group after its debut but returned for later landmark recordings. Jarobi was absent from much of the group’s classic run and later rejoined. That changing lineup is why some summaries list only the trio most visible on later albums.
