Which Hermès fragrance was inspired by the Nile River and launched in 2005?

The story behind the answer

The Hermès fragrance inspired by the Nile River and launched in 2005 was Un Jardin sur le Nil.

Jean-Claude Ellena created Un Jardin sur le Nil after a trip along the Nile in Egypt. The fragrance belongs to Hermès’s “Jardin” series, whose compositions imagine gardens and landscapes rather than simply presenting a traditional single-note perfume concept. Its character combines green, citrus, fruity, woody, and aquatic impressions.

The name translates as “A Garden on the Nile.” Mango, lotus, grapefruit, and sycamore are among the notes commonly associated with the composition. The scent was designed to suggest vegetation and water in an arid landscape, making the river’s presence central to its concept.

It is often confused with Terre d’Hermès because both were created by Ellena. Terre d’Hermès launched in 2006 and has a more explicitly earthy, woody profile, while Un Jardin sur le Nil belongs to the garden series.
