Hermès International was first listed on the Paris Stock Exchange in 1993.
The listing marked an important stage in the company’s transformation from a family-run saddlery and luxury-goods business into a publicly traded international group. Hermès remains unusual among major luxury houses because the founding family has retained substantial influence and ownership through family holding structures.
A stock-market listing does not mean that Hermès was founded in 1993. Thierry Hermès established the original workshop in Paris in 1837, and the company had already developed its leather, silk, and fashion activities long before the listing.
Hermès is now traded on Euronext Paris. Its strong family control is often discussed alongside its public status, since both features shape how the company is governed and perceived in the luxury industry.
