Which Harry Potter film was the first to feature Brendan Gleeson as Alastor Moody?

The story behind the answer

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire was the first Harry Potter film to feature Brendan Gleeson as Alastor Moody.

Moody is introduced as a veteran Auror and a new Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher at Hogwarts. His magical artificial eye, guarded manner, and experience fighting dark wizards make him appear unusually formidable. Gleeson played the role in several later films as well.

A major plot revelation shows that the apparent Moody at Hogwarts is actually Barty Crouch Jr., who has used Polyjuice Potion to impersonate him. The real Moody is held captive during the deception and appears after the impostor is exposed.

This makes the character’s first film appearance especially complicated: viewers meet Moody’s identity through an impersonation. The film, released in 2005, was directed by Mike Newell.
