Harry Potter is J.K. Rowling’s protagonist and the central hero of the Harry Potter series.
Harry is introduced as an orphan living with his aunt, uncle, and cousin in the ordinary, non-magical world. On his eleventh birthday, he learns that he is a wizard and that his parents, James and Lily Potter, were killed by Lord Voldemort when Harry was a baby.
A lightning-shaped scar on Harry’s forehead is the visible result of Voldemort’s failed attack. The event also creates a magical connection between the two characters, which becomes increasingly important across the seven novels.
At Hogwarts, Harry develops close friendships with Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger. He also becomes a member of Gryffindor house and plays Quidditch as a seeker. The character is sometimes described simply as “the Boy Who Lived,” a nickname linked to his survival of Voldemort’s curse.
