Which Harry Potter character is J.K. Rowling’s main hero?

Harry Potter is J.K. Rowling’s main hero and the central character of her seven-book series.

Harry is introduced as an orphan living with his aunt, uncle, and cousin in Surrey. On his eleventh birthday, he learns that he is a wizard and is invited to attend Hogwarts. The novels follow his education, friendships, and growing confrontation with Lord Voldemort, the dark wizard responsible for his parents’ deaths.

Harry’s story is told mainly in the third person from a viewpoint close to him, allowing readers to discover the wizarding world as he does. Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger are his closest friends, but neither is the series’ title character. Daniel Radcliffe portrayed Harry in all eight film adaptations, beginning with Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone in 2001.
