Which guest star played Dr. Mumford in season 1?

Richard Roundtree played Dr. Mumford in season 1 of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.

Dr. Mumford was the father of Will’s love interest Kathleen, who appeared in the season 2 premiere “Did the Earth Move for You?” Roundtree’s first Fresh Prince appearance came in the season 1 episode “Clubba Hubba,” which aired in 1990. The role is therefore a guest-star appearance rather than a regular part of the Banks family ensemble.

Roundtree was already a major screen presence before joining the sitcom. He became famous as private detective John Shaft in the 1971 film Shaft and its sequels, a performance that helped establish him as one of the era’s leading Black action stars. His television work also included Roots and Generations.

Roundtree later returned to The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air in a different role, Reverend Gordon Sims, in the season 6 episode “Hare Today.” That second appearance can make his credit seem broader than simply Dr. Mumford, but Dr. Mumford is the correct season 1 answer.
