Which group recorded the version of “Life Is a Highway” used in Pixar’s Cars?

Rascal Flatts recorded the version of “Life Is a Highway” used in Pixar’s Cars.

The country-music group recorded a new version of the song for the film’s soundtrack. “Life Is a Highway” was originally written and recorded by Canadian musician Tom Cochrane, whose original version became a major hit in 1991. Rascal Flatts’ cover brought the song to a new generation through Cars.

In the film, the song accompanies a lively road-trip sequence as Lightning McQueen and Mack travel toward the season-ending race. Its lyrics and energetic country-rock sound fit the movie’s themes of travel, motion, and the open road.

Rascal Flatts consisted of Gary LeVox, Jay DeMarcus, and Joe Don Rooney. The group’s recording is sometimes mistakenly credited to Tom Cochrane because he wrote and first recorded the song, but the version heard in Cars is by Rascal Flatts.
