Which group recorded “Life Is a Highway” for Pixar’s Cars soundtrack?

Rascal Flatts recorded “Life Is a Highway” for Pixar’s Cars soundtrack.

The song plays during a montage showing the Cars characters traveling toward Radiator Springs. Its upbeat country-rock sound matches the film’s road-trip setting and helped make it one of the movie’s most recognizable musical moments.

“Life Is a Highway” was originally written and recorded by Canadian musician Tom Cochrane in 1991. Rascal Flatts recorded a new version for Cars in 2006, introducing the song to a large family audience and giving it renewed chart attention.

The soundtrack also includes music by artists such as Sheryl Crow, Brad Paisley, and James Taylor. The Rascal Flatts recording is associated specifically with Cars; it should not be confused with the film’s orchestral score, which was composed by Randy Newman.
