Which group launched Beyoncé’s recording career before her solo success?
Answer
Destiny's Child
Answer
Destiny's Child
Destiny’s Child launched Beyoncé’s recording career before her solo success.
The group formed in Houston in the 1990s and originally included Beyoncé Knowles, Kelly Rowland, LaTavia Roberson, and LeToya Luckett. After early lineup changes, the best-known and commercially most successful version consisted of Beyoncé, Rowland, and Michelle Williams. Their music blended R&B, pop, and hip-hop influences.
Destiny’s Child became one of the best-selling female groups in music history. Their major songs included “Bills, Bills, Bills,” “Say My Name,” “Survivor,” and “Bootylicious.” “Say My Name” won two Grammy Awards in 2001, helping confirm the group’s importance in early-2000s popular music.
Beyoncé remained the group’s most prominent lead vocalist, but Destiny’s Child was a collaborative act rather than a solo alias. The group announced a hiatus in 2002, and Beyoncé released Dangerously in Love in 2003. Destiny’s Child reunited for selected performances later, including an appearance at the 2013 Super Bowl halftime show.
