Which group has earned the most Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 singles?

The Beatles have earned the most Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 singles by a group, with 20.

The Beatles’ first American Hot 100 No. 1 was “I Want to Hold Your Hand,” which reached the summit in February 1964 during the group’s breakthrough in the United States. Their final No. 1 during their original period of activity was “The Long and Winding Road” in 1970.

Their 20 chart-toppers include songs such as “Yesterday,” “Hey Jude,” “Let It Be,” and “Come Together.” The group’s run of success was concentrated in the 1960s, when Beatlemania drove exceptional record sales and radio play.

The Beatles’ total is a group record, not the overall record for every type of act. Elvis Presley, Mariah Carey, and other solo artists are counted separately in Billboard historical comparisons. Reissues and posthumous releases can also create confusion, but Billboard’s established tally gives the Beatles 20 No. 1 Hot 100 hits.
