Which Great Lake is home to the city of Toronto?
Answer
Lake Ontario
Answer
Lake Ontario
Toronto is located on the northwestern shore of Lake Ontario.
The lake is the easternmost and smallest by surface area of the five Great Lakes. Toronto’s waterfront faces south across the lake, while the Niagara Escarpment and the Golden Horseshoe urban region surround much of the Canadian shoreline.
Lake Ontario receives water from Lake Erie through the Niagara River. It then drains through the Saint Lawrence River toward the Atlantic Ocean. Although Lake Ontario is smaller than the other Great Lakes in surface area, it is considerably deeper than Lake Erie.
Toronto is not the only major city on the lake. Hamilton, Mississauga, Oshawa, and Kingston are also on or near its shores. Rochester, New York, lies on the southern shore, so Lake Ontario is shared by Canada and the United States.
