Wimbledon is the Grand Slam tournament held immediately after the French Open in the usual annual tennis calendar. It is played in London during the weeks following Roland-Garros.
The sequence begins with the Australian Open in January, continues with the French Open in late spring, then moves to Wimbledon on grass, before concluding with the US Open in New York. This spacing gives players a transition from the French Open’s clay courts to Wimbledon’s faster grass courts.
The order is a calendar convention, not an unbroken historical rule. The French Championships were held after Wimbledon in 1946 and 1947 while tennis schedules were being restored after World War II. The 2020 French Open was also postponed until after the US Open because of the COVID-19 pandemic. In a normal season, however, Wimbledon is the next Grand Slam.
