Which Grand Slam tournament is held at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center?

The story behind the answer

The US Open is the Grand Slam tournament held at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.

The tennis center is located in Flushing Meadows–Corona Park in Queens, New York City. It has hosted the US Open since 1978, when the facility opened after the United States Tennis Association developed the site around the former Singer Bowl. The complex was renamed for Billie Jean King in 2006 to honor the champion and equality advocate.

Its principal stadiums include Arthur Ashe Stadium, Louis Armstrong Stadium and the Grandstand. Arthur Ashe Stadium is the US Open’s centerpiece and gained a retractable roof for the 2016 tournament. The center’s courts historically used DecoTurf, but the surfaces were replaced with Laykold in 2020.

The main mix-up is confusing the tournament with its venue. The US Open is the event; the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center is the New York facility where it is played. The other three Grand Slam tournaments are held in Melbourne, Paris and London.
