Which Grand Prix did Pierre Gasly win for AlphaTauri in 2020?
Answer
Italian Grand Prix
Answer
Italian Grand Prix
Pierre Gasly won the 2020 Italian Grand Prix for AlphaTauri.
The race took place at Monza on September 6, 2020, during the heavily revised COVID-19 calendar. Gasly started 10th but moved forward through the early stages. A safety-car period and subsequent red flag reshaped the race, while Lewis Hamilton received a stop-and-go penalty for entering the pit lane when it was closed. Those events handed Gasly the lead after the restart.
Gasly held off Carlos Sainz of McLaren in the closing laps to secure his first Formula One victory. Lance Stroll finished third for Racing Point. The win was especially significant for AlphaTauri, which had changed its name from Toro Rosso before the 2020 season; it was the team’s first victory under the AlphaTauri identity.
The result also made Gasly the first French Formula One race winner since Olivier Panis won the 1996 Monaco Grand Prix. The nearby Tuscan Grand Prix was another 2020 Italian race, held at Mugello one week later, but Gasly did not win it.
