Which golfer won the 2015 Open Championship playoff at St Andrews?
Answer
Zach Johnson
Answer
Zach Johnson
Zach Johnson won the 2015 Open Championship playoff at St Andrews.
The 2015 championship was the 144th Open and was played from 16 to 20 July on the Old Course at St Andrews in Fife, Scotland. Johnson, Louis Oosthuizen and Marc Leishman all finished regulation play at 15 under par, forcing a four-hole aggregate playoff over the 1st, 2nd, 17th and 18th holes.
Johnson birdied the opening hole and then birdied the second, creating an early advantage. All three players bogeyed the famous Road Hole, the 17th, before making par at the 18th. Johnson finished the playoff one stroke ahead of Oosthuizen; Leishman ended two strokes further back.
The victory was Johnson’s second major championship, following his 2007 Masters triumph. Jordan Spieth was among the notable players in the field, but he finished tied for fourth and was not part of the playoff. A common mix-up is to identify Oosthuizen as the winner because he had already won the Open at St Andrews in 2010, but Johnson took the 2015 title.
