Rory McIlroy is the title athlete of EA Sports’ 2015 golf video game, Rory McIlroy PGA Tour. The game replaced the long-running Tiger Woods naming convention and marked the first entry in the series to carry McIlroy’s name.
Developed by EA Tiburon and published by Electronic Arts, the game launched for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in July 2015. It used the Frostbite 3 engine, allowing courses to be rendered without the loading screens that had characterized earlier installments. Its courses included real venues such as TPC Sawgrass, St Andrews, and Chambers Bay, alongside fantasy locations.
McIlroy was one of golf’s most prominent active players at the time. He had won the U.S. Open, The Open Championship, and PGA Championship before the game’s release, and he completed his career Grand Slam by winning the Masters in 2025. A common mix-up is confusing the game with the PGA Tour series’ earlier Tiger Woods-branded titles; McIlroy’s name appeared only in the 2015 entry.
