Which goddess is the consort of Vishnu?
Answer
Lakshmi
Answer
Lakshmi
Lakshmi is the consort of Vishnu in Hindu tradition.
In Vaishnavism, Lakshmi is more than Vishnu’s wife: she is his divine energy, or shakti, and represents prosperity, fortune, beauty, fertility, and spiritual well-being. Together, Vishnu and Lakshmi are often called Lakshmi-Narayana and are associated with preservation and cosmic order.
Hindu traditions connect Lakshmi with Vishnu’s earthly avatars. When Vishnu appears as Rama, Lakshmi is traditionally born as Sita; when he appears as Krishna, she is associated with figures including Rukmini and, in some traditions, Radha. Regional traditions also describe forms such as Sridevi and Bhudevi alongside Vishnu.
Lakshmi is commonly shown seated or standing on a lotus, holding lotus flowers, with coins or other symbols of abundance. She is especially celebrated during Diwali, when homes and businesses are cleaned and lamps are lit in hopes of inviting prosperity. She is sometimes confused with Saraswati, who represents learning and the arts, or Parvati, who is linked with power and Shiva.
