In the Greek myth, Hermes gave Pandora the gift of speech.
Pandora was not created by a single deity acting alone. Hesiod describes a coordinated divine project in which different gods contribute qualities, abilities, or adornments. Hermes, the messenger of the gods, is associated with giving Pandora speech and also with assigning her a deceptive or persuasive character in some translations.
Other gods contribute different gifts. Hephaestus fashions her body from earth, while Athena dresses and adorns her. Aphrodite gives beauty, and the Graces and other divine figures add further embellishments in later descriptions. These details support the traditional interpretation of Pandora’s name as “all-gifted.”
Modern summaries often compress the story and say simply that “the gods” created Pandora. That is broadly accurate, but identifying Hermes provides the specific answer requested by the myth’s division of divine roles. Hermes should not be confused with Prometheus, who is associated with giving fire to humanity.
