In the Pandora myth, which goddess taught Pandora crafts and practical skills?

The story behind the answer

In the Pandora myth, Athena taught Pandora crafts and practical skills.

Hesiod presents Pandora as a divinely assembled figure whose qualities came from several gods. Athena, the goddess strongly associated with wisdom, textile work, and skilled craftsmanship, contributed practical abilities. This part of the story places Pandora within a broader Greek tradition in which divine gifts can be useful while also serving a larger divine plan.

The myth does not describe Pandora as receiving every trait from one deity. Hermes, Aphrodite, and other gods are associated with different characteristics in later summaries and translations. Athena’s contribution is therefore distinct from the gifts of beauty, persuasion, or deceptive speech often attributed elsewhere.

Modern retellings frequently simplify the episode into a single act of creation. Hesiod’s version is more elaborate: Hephaestus makes the figure, and multiple gods add qualities before Zeus sends her to Epimetheus.
