Which glacier in Argentina is one of the few advancing glaciers in the world?

The glacier in Argentina known as one of the few advancing glaciers in the world is the Perito Moreno Glacier.

Located in Los Glaciares National Park in Santa Cruz Province, Perito Moreno flows from the Southern Patagonian Ice Field into Lake Argentino. It is about 30 kilometers long, and its towering blue ice front can rise roughly 60 meters above the water.

Unlike most glaciers, which have experienced long-term retreat, Perito Moreno historically maintained a near-equilibrium balance between snowfall and ice loss and periodically advanced. Its movement sometimes pushes across a narrow channel, blocking part of Lake Argentino. Water pressure then builds until the ice dam dramatically collapses in a process called a rupture.

A common mix-up is confusing Perito Moreno with Francisco Moreno, the explorer and conservationist after whom the glacier is named. Although recent research has documented renewed retreat, Perito Moreno remains the canonical answer to this widely used geography question because of its unusual advance-and-retreat history.
