Which genres are combined in Taylor Swift’s song “august”?

Taylor Swift’s “august” combines dream pop, guitar pop, and soft rock.

The song’s production is built around a dense reverb sound, layered strings, keyboards, and guitars. Those elements create the shimmering, hazy atmosphere often associated with the track’s late-summer setting.

Although Folklore is frequently grouped with folk, indie folk, and chamber pop, “august” is among the album’s more pop-oriented recordings. Aaron Dessner described it as the album’s closest thing to a pop song, emphasizing its louder and more expansive character.

Listeners sometimes label the song simply as indie or folk because of its album context. The more specific classifications—dream pop, guitar pop, and soft rock—describe the musical blend identified for the track itself.
