Assassin's Creed Origins introduced Bayek of Siwa as its playable protagonist.

Released in 2017, Origins follows Bayek, a Medjay from the Siwa Oasis, during the final years of Ptolemaic Egypt. After a personal tragedy, he and Aya investigate a group whose activities help lead to the formation of the Hidden Ones.

Origins functions as an origin story for the Assassin tradition shown in later historical periods. It also significantly changed the series with role-playing mechanics, experience levels, loot, and a large explorable version of ancient Egypt.

Bayek is sometimes confused with other recent protagonists. Kassandra and Alexios are associated with Odyssey, Eivor with Valhalla, and Basim with Mirage. Bayek, however, is specifically the central protagonist of Origins.
