Which Game Boy game introduced Princess Daisy?

Super Mario Land introduced Princess Daisy in her 1989 Game Boy debut.

Daisy appears as the princess of Sarasaland, a setting created specifically for the handheld adventure rather than the usual Mushroom Kingdom. Mario travels through the game’s 12 stages to rescue her from Tatanga, an alien conqueror. Her debut made her distinct from Princess Peach, who was not the damsel in distress in this story.

Super Mario Land was developed by Nintendo R&D1 under Gunpei Yokoi and Satoru Okada, without series creator Shigeru Miyamoto directing it. The game adapted Mario’s platforming formula to the Game Boy but also introduced unusual elements, including shooting stages and original enemies.

Players sometimes confuse Daisy’s first appearance with Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins, but that sequel does not introduce her. Daisy’s later importance grew through spin-offs: she became playable in Mario Tennis and Mario Party before becoming a regular presence in kart, sports and party games.
