Which game begins the Assassin's Creed trilogy starring Ezio Auditore?

The story behind the answer

Assassin's Creed II begins the Assassin's Creed trilogy starring Ezio Auditore.

Ubisoft released Assassin's Creed II in 2009, introducing Ezio Auditore da Firenze as its central historical protagonist. The story follows his transformation from a young Florentine nobleman into an Assassin during the Italian Renaissance, with major locations including Florence, Venice, and Forlì.

The game is the second main entry in the franchise and follows the original Assassin's Creed, whose protagonist was Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad. Ezio's story continues directly in Assassin's Creed Brotherhood and concludes in Assassin's Creed Revelations, forming one of the series' most connected character arcs.

Players sometimes call Brotherhood the start of Ezio's trilogy because it is strongly associated with his mature Assassin career and Rome setting. Chronologically within the trilogy, however, Assassin's Creed II comes first. It also introduced systems such as a larger economic element, customizable equipment, and Leonardo da Vinci as an important ally.
