Which game awarded the first esports gold medal at the 2018 Asian Games?

The story behind the answer

Arena of Valor awarded the first esports gold medal at the 2018 Asian Games.

Esports appeared at the Jakarta–Palembang 2018 Asian Games as a demonstration sport, so the medals did not count toward the official medal table. Six games were included: Arena of Valor, Clash Royale, League of Legends, Pro Evolution Soccer 2018, StarCraft II, and Hearthstone.

China won the Arena of Valor event, defeating Indonesia in the final. The competition was significant because it gave esports a formal place inside one of Asia’s largest multi-sport events.

Arena of Valor is the international version of Tencent’s mobile multiplayer online battle arena game Honor of Kings. Because the 2018 events were demonstrations, “first esports gold medal” can be interpreted differently depending on whether a question means the first gold awarded at the Games or the first official medal in a later edition. In this context, Arena of Valor was the first title contested.
