Which gallery first exhibited Georgia O'Keeffe's work in a solo show?

The story behind the answer

Gallery 291 first exhibited Georgia O'Keeffe's work in a solo show.

Alfred Stieglitz presented O'Keeffe's first solo exhibition at his New York gallery, known as 291, in 1917. The gallery took its name from its address at 291 Fifth Avenue and was a major center for modern art in the United States.

Stieglitz had first seen some of O'Keeffe's drawings after they were sent to him without her permission by her friend Anita Pollitzer. He became an important promoter of her work, and the two later married in 1924.

The gallery is often referred to by Stieglitz's name or by its address. “An American Place” was another gallery associated with Stieglitz later in his career, but it was not the venue of O'Keeffe's first solo exhibition.
