In which New Mexico town did Georgia O'Keeffe keep a famous adobe home?

The story behind the answer

Georgia O'Keeffe kept a famous adobe home in Abiquiu, New Mexico.

She discovered the abandoned hacienda in Abiquiu in the 1930s and later acquired it, restoring the property as a home and studio. The building's courtyard, adobe walls, and distinctive black door became recurring elements in her work.

O'Keeffe had already begun spending time in New Mexico during the 1920s. The region's desert, mountains, churches, bones, and architectural forms offered subjects very different from those of New York and Lake George.

Her Abiquiu property is often confused with Ghost Ranch, another New Mexico place closely linked to her. Ghost Ranch was a separate retreat north of Abiquiu; the Abiquiu house was her principal home and studio during her later years.
