In which U.S. state was Georgia O'Keeffe's Abiquiú home located?
Answer
New Mexico
Answer
New Mexico
Georgia O'Keeffe's Abiquiú home was located in New Mexico.
O'Keeffe first visited New Mexico in 1917 and returned regularly for many years. The state's dry climate, high desert, cliffs, churches, bones, and expansive skies became recurring subjects in her paintings.
She purchased a house in the village of Abiquiú in 1945 and restored it over several years. The property included a distinctive black door opening onto a courtyard, an image that became one of her best-known architectural motifs.
O'Keeffe also lived and worked at Ghost Ranch, north of Abiquiú. These two places are often mentioned together, but they were separate properties. The Georgia O'Keeffe Home and Studio in Abiquiú is now preserved as a National Historic Landmark and is associated with the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum in Santa Fe.
