Which fox species has the largest ears relative to its body size?
Answer
Fennec fox
Answer
Fennec fox
The fennec fox has the largest ears relative to its body size of any fox species. Its ears can measure about 10–15 centimetres long, helping release heat and detect prey beneath sand.
This small fox lives mainly in the Sahara and other North African deserts. Its pale coat reflects sunlight, while fur on its feet protects against hot sand and provides traction.
Fennec foxes are often confused with kit foxes because both have oversized ears and desert habitats. However, the fennec is smaller and is especially associated with the Sahara. Its large ears are useful for both hearing rodents and thermoregulation.
