Which snake is the world’s longest living snake species?
Answer
Reticulated python
Answer
Reticulated python
The reticulated python is the world’s longest living snake species.
Reticulated pythons are native to South and Southeast Asia, including the Philippines and parts of Indonesia. They are constrictors, meaning they subdue prey by wrapping around it and restricting its breathing and circulation. Their patterned scales provide camouflage in forests, wetlands, and agricultural landscapes.
Exceptional specimens have exceeded 6 metres in length, although most wild individuals are considerably shorter. The species’ name refers to its net-like, or reticulated, pattern of pale lines and dark patches.
The green anaconda is often described as the heaviest snake, rather than the longest. This distinction explains why records about the two species can appear contradictory. Reticulated pythons are also popular in captivity, but their large adult size makes responsible housing and handling essential.
