Which Fortnite racing game was developed by Psyonix?

The story behind the answer

Rocket Racing is the Fortnite racing game developed by Psyonix.

Psyonix created Rocket Racing as a fast arcade-racing experience within Fortnite. The studio is best known for Rocket League, and Rocket Racing carries over a similar taste for cars, boosts, jumps, and unconventional driving while placing players on dedicated racetracks rather than in soccer arenas.

The game launched on December 8, 2023, one day after Lego Fortnite and one day before Fortnite Festival. Races can include up to 12 players, and drivers gain speed by drifting to build a boost meter. Cars can also jump over obstacles and drive along walls or ceilings, giving the courses a more acrobatic feel than conventional racing games.

A common mix-up is treating Rocket Racing as simply a Rocket League mode. It is a separate racing experience that is part of the Fortnite platform, although its developer and vehicle-focused design connect it closely to Psyonix’s earlier hit. Epic Games acquired Psyonix in 2019.
