Which fort was built by Guru Hargobind?

Guru Hargobind built Lohgarh, a fort intended to help defend the Sikh centre at Ramdaspur.

The fort reflected a major change in Sikh history. After the execution of his father, Guru Arjan, in 1606, Guru Hargobind emphasized both spiritual authority and temporal responsibility, symbolized by the doctrine of miri-piri. He encouraged Sikhs to train for self-defence and created the Akal Sena, an early Sikh military force.

Lohgarh is often associated with the later Sikh stronghold used by Banda Singh Bahadur, who made it the capital of the first Sikh state in 1710. That later history can cause confusion about its origins. The fort linked with Guru Hargobind was constructed earlier, in the 1620s, under his direction, with Bhai Lakhi Rai Banjara traditionally credited with carrying out the work.

Lohgarh should also be distinguished from Gwalior Fort, where Guru Hargobind was imprisoned by the Mughal emperor Jahangir, and from Gobindgarh Fort in Amritsar, which was built much later.
