Which Formula One-inspired racer from Italy competes against Lightning McQueen in Cars 2?

Francesco Bernoulli is the Italian racer who competes against Lightning McQueen in Cars 2.

Francesco is a Formula One-inspired open-wheel race car and one of Lightning’s principal rivals in the World Grand Prix. His confidence and flamboyant personality create a strong contrast with Lightning, whose racing identity is rooted more in American stock-car competition.

The World Grand Prix takes the competitors to races in Tokyo, Italy, and London. Francesco’s design reflects the sleek shapes and exposed-wheel layout associated with open-wheel racing. His name and Italian identity also connect him to the film’s European setting and racing traditions.

Francesco is voiced by John Turturro in the English version. He should not be confused with Luigi, the Italian Fiat 500 tire enthusiast from Radiator Springs. Luigi is a supporting character and friend of Lightning, whereas Francesco is a professional rival in Cars 2.
