In Pixar's Cars 3, the Florida 500 is the championship event where Cruz Ramirez takes McQueen's place.
The race is held at the Florida International Super Speedway and forms the climax of the film. McQueen initially enters believing he must prove that he can still defeat Jackson Storm. During the event, however, he recognizes Cruz's talent and gives her the opportunity to race in his place.
Cruz's performance turns the finale into a story about mentorship as well as competition. McQueen adopts a role resembling Doc Hudson's: he supports a new racer while continuing his own career in a different way. The result connects Cars 3 to the earlier film's themes of legacy and friendship.
The Florida 500 should not be confused with the Piston Cup, which is the championship series and trophy. The Florida 500 is the specific final race shown in Cars 3.
