Balthazar Bratt was the star of the 1980s television show Evil Bratt, where he played a child villain. After the show was canceled as he grew older, Bratt became obsessed with his former character and turned to real-world supervillainy. His crimes are driven by resentment toward the entertainment industry and a desire to destroy Hollywood.

In the film, Bratt steals the Dumont Diamond and plans to use it to power a giant robot. His appearance, music and gadgets deliberately echo 1980s pop culture, including breakdancing, shoulder pads and a weaponized keytar. The character is a comic parody of child stars whose identities remain tied to an earlier era.

Trey Parker, co-creator of South Park and The Book of Mormon, provides Bratt’s voice. Bratt is not the same character as Eduardo Pérez, the villain from Despicable Me 2, or Maxime Le Mal, who appears in Despicable Me 4.
