Which Foo Fighters single has a video parodying Mentos ads?

The story behind the answer

Which Foo Fighters single has a video parodying Mentos ads? The single is “Big Me.”

Released in 1996, “Big Me” became especially recognizable because its music video spoofs the optimistic Mentos commercials of the 1990s. The fictional candy in the video is called “Footos,” and the advertising slogan “The Freshmaker” is transformed into “The Fresh Fighter.”

Director Jesse Peretz created the deliberately lightweight concept to match the song’s sweet, concise pop-rock character. The video was filmed in Sydney, Australia, and debuted on MTV on February 14, 1996. It received five nominations at the 1996 MTV Video Music Awards and won Best Group Video.

The parody became so closely associated with the song that fans reportedly threw Mentos at the band during performances. Foo Fighters temporarily stopped playing “Big Me” live because the sweets hurt when thrown. The track itself comes from the band’s 1995 debut album, Foo Fighters.
