Which Foo Fighters drummer died in 2022?

The story behind the answer

Taylor Hawkins was the Foo Fighters drummer who died in 2022. He died on March 25, 2022, in Bogotá, Colombia, at age 50, while the band was on a South American tour.

Born Oliver Taylor Hawkins in Fort Worth, Texas, Hawkins first became widely known as the touring drummer for Alanis Morissette. He joined Foo Fighters in 1997, replacing William Goldsmith, and remained the band’s drummer for roughly 25 years.

Hawkins was more than a drummer: he also sang lead and backing vocals and played in several side projects, including Taylor Hawkins and the Coattail Riders and the Birds of Satan. His powerful playing and energetic stage presence became a defining part of the Foo Fighters sound.

Josh Freese later played drums with Foo Fighters, while Dave Grohl had handled drums on the original debut album. The band and Hawkins’s family organized tribute concerts in London and Los Angeles in September 2022 to celebrate his life and music.
