Cosimo de’ Medici supported his studies, and Ficino translated Plato’s complete works from Greek into Latin, making them accessible to scholars who could not read Greek.

Ficino’s Latin Plato was completed in the late 15th century and printed in 1484. He also translated or commented on works by Neoplatonic authors, including Plotinus. His writings helped connect classical philosophy with Christian theology and influenced Renaissance ideas about the soul, beauty, love, and divine order.

Ficino is sometimes described as the head of the Platonic Academy in Florence, although historians caution that this was not a formal university in the modern sense. His circle was instead a network of intellectuals associated with Medici patronage and Florentine humanism.
