Which 1570 book by Andrea Palladio explained the principles of classical Renaissance architecture?

Andrea Palladio’s 1570 book explaining classical Renaissance architecture was I Quattro Libri dell’Architettura, or The Four Books of Architecture.

Published in Venice, the work presents Palladio’s theories, building designs, measurements, and illustrations. Its four sections cover building materials, private houses, public buildings, and temples.

Palladio drew heavily on ancient Roman architecture, especially the writings of Vitruvius. His presentation of villas and classical orders became highly influential after translations spread his ideas across Europe and later North America.

The book is sometimes confused with Alberti’s De re aedificatoria, an earlier Renaissance architectural treatise. Palladio’s volume is especially associated with villas, symmetry, proportion, and the revival of antique forms.
