JPMorgan Chase, founded in 2000 through a merger, owns Chase and is based in New York City.
JPMorgan Chase & Co. was formed when J.P. Morgan and Company merged with Chase Manhattan Corporation in 2000. Its history also includes major predecessor institutions such as Chemical Bank, Bank One, and Washington Mutual’s banking operations.
The company operates through consumer and community banking, corporate and investment banking, commercial banking, and asset and wealth management. The Chase name is especially prominent in consumer banking, credit cards, and branches in the United States.
JPMorgan Chase is not the same as JPMorgan, which commonly refers to the investment-bank and institutional side of the broader company. Market capitalization compares the value of publicly traded equity, while a bank’s total assets, deposits, and managed assets are different measures of size.
